National 4 Music Technology

What will I learn in this subject?
The course is divided into three main areas which consist of:
 
Music Technology Skills – pupils will learn to record and manipulate sound using hardware and computer software.
 
Understanding 20th and 21st Music – pupils will be required to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the development of modern music through the advances of technology.
 
Music Technology in Context – pupils will produce different short pieces of work which will demonstrate their ability to capture sound, manipulate it, and then mix it down to an audio master.
  
How will I be assessed?
National 4 is assessed internally through the use of one Technology Assignment (March) and an internal Listening Folio (April).
  
What are the entry requirements for this subject/level?
No entry requirements.

National 5 Music Technology

What will I learn in this subject?
The course is divided into three main areas which consist of:
 
Music Technology Skills – pupils will learn to record and manipulate sound using hardware and computer software.
 
Understanding 20th and 21st Music – pupils will be required to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the development of modern music through the advances of technology.
 
Music Technology in Context – pupils will produce different short pieces of work which will demonstrate their ability to capture sound, manipulate it, and then mix it down to an audio master.
 
How will I be assessed?
National 5 is assessed externally through the use of two Technology assignments (March 70%) and a final external listening paper (May 30%).
  
What are the entry requirements for this subject/level?
No entry requirements.

Higher Music Technology

What will I learn in this subject?
In music technology you will have the opportunity to explore your talents and express your creativity. You will learn to develop your skills as a sound engineer using industry standard equipment and to build confidence in capturing and manipulating sound in a variety of different contexts.
 
The course is divided into three main areas which consist of:
 
Music Technology Skills – pupils will develop their skills in recording and manipulating sound using hardware and computer software.
 
Understanding 20th & 21st Music – pupils will be required to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the development of modern music through the advances of technology.
 
Music Technology in Context – pupils will produce a substantial combined project which will demonstrate their ability to capture sound, manipulate it, and then mix it down to an audio master.
 
How will I be assessed?
Higher Music Technology is assessed externally through the use of one Technology assignment using two different contexts (worth 70% of final grade).
 
There is also a final external listening paper (worth 30% of final grade).
   
What are the entry requirements for this subject/level?
Achieved National 5 Music Technology.

Advanced Higher Technology

What will I learn in this subject?
In music technology you will have the opportunity to explore your talents and express your creativity. You will learn to develop your skills as a sound engineer using industry standard equipment and to build confidence in capturing and manipulating sound in a variety of different contexts.
 
The course is divided into three main areas which consist of:
 
Music Technology Skills - pupils will develop advanced skills in recording and manipulating sound using hardware and computer software.

Understanding 20th and 21st Century Music - pupils will be required to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the development of modern music through the advances of technology through research and investigation.
 
Music Technology in Context - pupils will produce a substantial project which will demonstrate their ability to capture and manipulate sound, mix down to audio pre-master and mix down to mastered final product.
   
How will I be assessed?
Advanced Higher Technology is assessed externally through:
 
Research and Investigation (30%) - one substantial project which explores techniques used by engineers working in industry.
 
Assignment (70%) - one substantial project which demonstrates a variety of advanced recording and editing/mixing techniques.
   
What are the entry requirements for this subject/level?
Achieved Higher Music Technology.
