National 4 Fashion & Textile Technology
What will I learn in this subject?
Learners will have the the opportunity to develop straightforward knowledge and skills related to textile technologies. This includes knowledge of the characteristics and properties of a range of fabrics and their uses. Learners will have the opportunity to make straightforward fashion/textile items, to an appropriate standard of quality, using a pattern and a range of textile construction techniques. You will also learn about fashion trends and l investigate the fashion/textile choices of consumers.
How will I be assessed?
The course will be assessed throughout the year and includes four mandatory units.

No entry requirements.
National 5 Fashion & Textile Technology
What will I learn in this subject?
Through studying Fashion and Textile Technology at National 5 you will develop key skills required for fashion items and garment manufacturing. The course helps candidates develop an understanding of textile properties, characteristics and technologies, item development, fashion/textile trends and factors that affect fashion/textile choice. Particular emphasis is placed on the development of practical skills and textile construction techniques to make detailed fashion/textile items, to an appropriate standard of quality.
How will I be assessed?
The course assessment for National 5 Fashion & Textile Technology has three components:
Component 1: Question Paper - set by SQA
Component 2: Assignment - a task set by SQA where you are asked to design and plan a fashion and textile item to a given brief
Component 3: Practical Activity - this is a chance to demonstrate your practical sewing manufacturing skills to make a garment or fashion item

What are the entry requirements for this subject/level?
To study National 5 Fashion and Textile Technology it is expected pupils will have an interest in fashion and/or completed NPA Costume or achieved National 4 Fashion & Textile Technology.
Higher Fashion & Textile Technology
What will I learn in this subject?
Studying Higher Fashion and Textile Technology will allow you to develop a deeper understanding of textile properties, item development and fashion and textile trends. Candidates explore a range of issues that influence decisions taken by industry and choices made by consumers, and also how the fashion industry affects society and the environment. Particular emphasis is placed on the development of practical skills and textile construction techniques to make detailed fashion/textile items, to an high standard of quality.
How will I be assessed?
The Higher Fashion & Textile Technology course has 3 components:
Component 1: Question Paper - set by SQA.
Component 2: Assignment - this is a written assignment set by SQA where candidates develop and plan a fashion and textile item to a given brief
Component 3: Practical Activity - this is an opportunity for candidates to demonstrate their practical skills in the construction of a fashion/textile item

Achieved National 5 Fashion and Textile Technology or NPA Costume Design.
