Developing the Young Workforce

Overview

Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) is the Scottish Government’s Youth Employment strategy to better prepare young people for the world of work.

Our role within Auchmuty High School is to help bridge the divide between school and the workplace through our collaboration with the wider community, employers and various partners to help prepare our young people for the world of work.

The main DYW activities intended to achieve this aim can summed up under the following key themes:

  • Expanding the offer – increasing the route from schools into employment, or further education which is closely linked to employment.
  • Developing young people's learning about the world of work.
  • Providing relevant, labour-market focused career advice when young people need it.
  • Providing key employability skills through an employer led employability programme.
  • Embedding meaningful employer involvement.
  • Consolidating partnership working with colleges and other training providers
  • Providing access to vocational options during the senior phase of secondary school through School College Partnership
  • Improving opportunities for all learners, with a focus on reducing gender imbalance on course take-up.
  • Development and awareness of foundation apprenticeships offer.
  • Developing strong partnerships between employers and the school.
