Higher Computing Science

What will I learn in this subject?
Students will study 3 units to complete this course:
  
Unit 1 – Software Design and Development (SDD)
Students will develop knowledge and understanding of advanced concepts and practical problem solving skills in software design and development and be able to adapt to different appropriate development environments and language such as Visual Basic, PHP and Python. Learners will develop their programming and computational thinking skills by designing, implementing, testing and evaluating practical solutions and explaining how these programs work
    
Unit 2 – Information System Design and Development (ISDD)
Students will develop knowledge and understanding of advanced concepts and practical problem-solving skills related to the design and development of information systems through a range of practical and investigative tasks based on SQL, JavaScript and PHP. Students will develop knowledge and understanding of different network threats and prevention
  
Unit 3 - Software and Information System Design and Development (SISDD)
Students will develop knowledge and understanding of the variety of development methodologies, contemporary developments and design notations such as Agile methodologies, intelligent systems and entity relationship diagrams accordingly
  
How will I be assessed?
Internal assessments for each unit. SQA External assessment is in the form on a Coursework Assignment (40% of overall grade) and a Question Paper (60% of overall grade).

No entry requirements.

Advanced Higher Computing Science

  • SQA Coursework project (80 marks)
  • SQA External exam (120 marks)
 
What are the entry requirements for this subject/level?
Achieved Higher Computing at a grade C or above.
